NCBI Taxonomy will add binomial species names to about 3000 viruses by March/April 2025, impacting the general classification used by the INSDC. This reflects changes to the International Code of Virus Classification and Nomenclature (ICVCN) made by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV).
