INSDC Members have agreed to a common set of standards and recommendations relating to the submission and validation of genetic sequence data.

Standards or controlled vocabularies are strictly validated across INSDC Members and should be adhered to carefully by submitters.

Recommendations and guidelines are less strictly validated, but are useful for enhancing interoperability across submissions.
